Super Bowl Sunday

With two and half minutes to go in the Super Bowl, my almost 7 year old son finally decided to join us and watch the game. Warner had thrown a touchdown pass to Fitzgerald and the Cardinals have taken the lead.

Then Pittsburgh comes roaring back to life and scores with 34 second. A few seconds later, Warner reach back to try to launch a bomb and is sacked.

My son cried. He goes to the car and sits there for a while. I join him after 15 minutes.

We sat in the car quietly for a few moments. Then he looks me in the eyes and says 'Dad, I'm not a Vikings fan'.

Ilooked him back in the eye and says 'That's ok. You're your own person and can root for any team you want to root for"

After a few moments of silence, I said 'What is your team?''

"Aizona Cardinals' he replied.

"Hmmmm.....they played a great game."

After a few moments of pause, I said "Well...if you're going to be a Cardinals fan, I'm going to make the Arizona Cardinals my second favorite team"

He smiled.

Later on that night, he asked what if Arizona plays Minnesota? I told him he better watch out cause the Vikings are going to win!

When I went to bed, I had a tinge of sadness inside me. I couldn't help thinking how I was 7 years old watching my first Super Bowl and rooting for the Minnesota Vikings. After that I became a Vikings fan for life. I didn't realized 35 years later, they would still not have won a Super Bowl. I hope my son doesn't go through the anguish I went through for 35 years.
