The Dark Side...
Riva and I was watching Star Wars. She asked me why Darth Vader was the bad guy. I told him the Dark Side got him.
"What's the Dark side?" she asked.
"It's this voice in your head. For example," I repeated 3 times "Go hit your brother Judah!"
"No" she said.
"That was the dark side. The opposite of the dark side is the force who stood for doing the right thing. I'm proud of you - the force is with you!"

Star Wars birthday party
Riva played the Star War theme on a mini piano at Nicholas Star Wars birthday party. She knows the whole song now without the music sheets.
When I walked into the party, our neighbor Ed was dressed as Darth Vader. I went back to the car to get Judah telling "Darth Vader is here!"
"He is not real, is he?" looking a little scared.
"No, no...it's a fake one" I said. "Darth Vader is actually a nice guy before the dark side took over. I'll show you - give him high five."
He gave him high five.
"Told ya he was a nice guy, eh?"

Dad didn't wipe and wash his hands....
I was watching 3 kids all day as Mom went to work. I played with them outside, took them bike riding and swimming, gave them a bath and fed them dinner. Mom came home and Riva tells Mom that when they were taking a bath, Dad was taking a leak and he didn't wipe or wash his hand.
Gad....what a fink!

The Coyote with Green Eyes
Judah came in our bed last night scared saying he saw a coyote with green eyes. He hadn't gone to sleep and dreamed yet so we couldn't understand why he said that. After reading him a few books and then telling him coyotes don't live him our neighborhood, I carried him back into his room, as we walked into his room, he was screaming. I kept saying "what? what? where?" He point outside his room and toward the sliding glass door. I saw two green eyes looking at me. They were reflection from the green led light under the light switch on the other side of the room.
"Oh....it's only the light switch.." I said but he was still staring at the 2 green eyes. I showed him the green light on the wall, turn on the yard light and then open and closed the sliding glass door and explain to him that he was seeing the reflection of the green led light. After a few skeptical minutes and a couple of questions, he finally understood and calmly went to bed. As I tucked him, I chuckled to him "a coyote with green eyes and it was only the light switch!" He smiled and went to bed comfortably.

Shira's a walking....
1 years old and she's walking all over the place...she's also signing some words - milk, diaper/bathroom, ball, more. She already said the words "Mom", "Dad", "Sissy", "Judah", "dog-dog" and "tank you".
Judah almost 4 loves doing his homework book and is practicing his writing. He now writes out his name. He is also reading everything. He had recurring nightmare screaming "Baby Beluga is biting me.." to which we always respond "Whales don't have teeth, they have baleens."
Riva almost 7 is writing in her diary every day. She's a confessor like Jana. She doesn't hide thing and talk openly about things to people like "My brother got me in trouble" and goes into all the details. One time she said to a friend "I'm in big trouble with Mom" to which her friend replied "Me, too" and rolled her eyeballs up.
It's a pleasure to watch them grow up.

You're so lucky to have a little brother and sister!
One of Riva's friend said "You're so lucky you have a little brother and sister!" Riva responded "You're so lucky you don't!"
I guess the Sounds of Music is a true story...
Someone talked about the Holocaust at Sunday school. One of our friends observed a few girls talking about it thereafter. Riva commented "I guess the Sounds of Music is a true story..."
She's 6 now. I was surprised that one of the teacher told the students about the holocaust. I wish I could have told her first, but in any case, they are going to learn sooner or later and we can't shield our kids from the evilness of the world.
She did asked me a while ago what the word "Lest we forget 6 millions..." at the Temple means a while. I told her we'll talk about it another time. But another time is coming soon as she's now 6 and when they asked these questions, it's the time that we as parents need to bravely step up and guide them to the real world instead of continuing to shield them from everything.
Let's remember the words of George Santayana: "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it"

Riva is humble....
One of our friend observing Riva in a playdate said that Riva is humble - she was trying to help her daughter read. Not bragging or showing off, but genuinely and kindly trying to help out. Usually people say Riva is smart or beautiful to which I would alway respond that, "No, she is just average or beauty is artificial." But the word "humble" is a word I can accept and be proud of.
