And it doesn't stop there. All the 1st place winners went to the Santa Barbara County (Ventura, Buellton, etc.) and she won first prize there and now her piece is now in Sacramento where they are judging it on the state wide level.
I said to Jana "Where the heck is that poem? I don't remember it. " Then I asked her did she really do it? She said that she remember Riva and her friend Hannah in the back seat of the car making up poety.
That night, I asked Riva if she remember that she didn't get an award last year. Then I asked her if winning was everything? She said "No, it's about doing your best." I asked her "If you don't get 1st place, what then?" She said "Just say "Awwwww....."
Sniffle...that's my girl! Read on about her poem!

The sky is changing every day
so we can go outside and play.
Sometimes a rainbow comes and lands on you.
The sun is shining right on you.
The moon is rising
and the children go to bed.
But when it rains, the flowers don't mind.
They like geting wet in rain or sunshine.
The thunderstorm is really loud.
So go inside to shield yourself from the sound.
The sky is changing every day
so we can go outside and play
