What is Success?

Mike played basketball with us at lunch time in Robbs Gym. He had a stroke on the court and died between my job at the Graduate Division and Institutional Advancement. Here is the quote copied by Dr. Michael Reuben Stevenson (July 15, 1942 - March 31, 2003), found on his desk 3/31/03 before he died:



What is Success?

• To laugh often and much.
• To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children.
• To earn the appeciation of honest critics and endure the false betrayal of false friends.
• To appreciate beauty.
• To find the best in others.
• To leave the world a bit better, whether by a heathy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition.
• To know eve one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

This is to have successed.
